Carmen Maria Rey Caldas was appointed as an Immigration Judge to begin hearing cases in March 2022. Judge Rey Caldas ear ned a Bachelor of Arts in 2001 from New York University and a Juris Doctor in 2006 from Brooklyn Law School. From 2020 to 2022, she was U.S. Legal Director at the International Refugee Assistance Project in New York. From 2018 to 2020, she was Co-Director of the Safe Harbor Clinic and Assistant Professor of Clinical Law at Brooklyn Law School, in Brooklyn, New York. From 2015 to 2018, she was Director and Deputy Director of the Immigration Intervention Project at Sanctuary for Families in New York. From 2011 to 2015, she was a Senior Immigration Attorney at Her Justice in New York. From 2008 to 2011, she was a Staff Attorney at Sanctuary for Families. From 2006 to 2008, she was an Equal Justice Fellow at Sanctuary for Families. Judge Rey Caldas is a member of the New York State Bar.
