Inside Immigration

Plain-language guides to US immigration, asylum and USCIS procedure.

About

A reference desk, in plain language.

Inside Immigration explains how US immigration actually works: asylum, green cards, family petitions, work permits, and the procedure behind each.

The site began in 2013 and holds 108 articles, most written between 2021 and 2023. They were written for people going through the system themselves, often in a second language, and for the relatives, paralegals and community advisors helping them. The aim is exactness without jargon.

Each piece carries its publication date. Immigration policy moves quickly, and an explainer from 2021 may describe a rule that has since been rewritten. Older articles say so at the top. Use them to understand the shape of a process, then confirm the current requirements with USCIS or a licensed attorney.

Inside Immigration is published from New York by American Services, New York. Nothing here is legal advice, and reading it creates no attorney-client relationship. See the disclaimer and privacy policy. Questions and corrections are welcome through the contact page.
