Official biography

Marlem Nava was appointed as an Immigration Judge to begin hearing cases in October 2022. Judge Nava ear ned a Bachelor of Science in 1997 from DePaul University and a Juris Doctor in 2002 from University of Illinois Chicago School of Law (formerly known as the John Marshall Law School). From 2016 to 2022, she served as an assistant chief counsel, Office of the Principal Legal Advisor, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Department of Homeland Security, in San Francisco. From 2015 to 2016, she was an associate attorney with the Salgado and Associates law firm in San Francisco. From 2013 to 2015, she was in private practice. From 2003 to 2013, she served as an assistant state's attorney with the Cook County State's Attorney's Office in Chicago. Judge Nava is a member of the Illinois State Bar.
