Attorney General William Barr appointed John M. Furlong Jr. to begin hearing cases in May 2019. Judge Furlong ear ned a Bachelor of Arts in 1988 from Boston College and a Juris Doctorin 1994 from Suffolk University. From 2013 to 2019, he served as the deputy district director for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, Department of Homeland Security (DHS), in Boston,Massachusetts. From 2006 to 2013, he served as a deputy chief counsel for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), DHS, in the same office. From 1996 to 2006, he served as an assistant chief counsel for ICE, DHS, in Boston, Massachusetts. Judge Furlong is a member ofthe Massachusetts State Bar.
