N-336 Request for a Hearing on a Decision in Naturalization Proceedings (Under Section 336 of the INA)

Appeals a denied naturalisation application to a second, more senior USCIS officer. It must be filed within 30 days of the denial, or 33 if it was mailed. Exhausting this step is a precondition to asking a federal district court to review the denial under INA 310(c).

  • Skipping the N-336 usually forfeits the right to go to district court. The hearing is before a USCIS officer senior to the one who denied it, not before a judge.
