USCIS offices
USCIS runs four kinds of office and they do not overlap. A field office is where interviews happen: green card, naturalization, and the in-person appointments the Contact Center books when the website cannot help. An application support center takes fingerprints and photographs; every biometrics notice sends you to one, and nothing else happens there. An asylum office interviews affirmative asylum applicants and covers a fixed set of states and counties. A service center adjudicates cases that arrive by post or online and admits no visitors at all. Your notice names the office; check it against the address here before you travel, and never go to an office without an appointment.

Offices close for weather and move without much notice; the office closings page is the authority on any given morning.
