Official biography
Attorney General Barr appointed James J. Crofts to begin hearing cases in January 2020. Judge Crofts ear ned a Bachelor of Arts in 1991 from Boston University and a Juris Doctor in 1999 from St. John's University School of Law. From 2016 to 2019, he served as an assistant chief counsel, Office of Chief Counsel, Office of the Principal Legal Advisor, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Department of Homeland Security, in Atlanta. From 2000 to 2016, he served as an assistant district attorney with the Office of the Bronx District Attorney, in Bronx, New York. Since 2012, he has also served as a judge advocate for the U.S. Army Reserve. Judge Crofts is a member of the State Bar of New York.
